What We Know About Moving at UMass
UMass Amherst is the largest residential campus in New England. Moving here is not like moving anywhere else. Here's what you need to know:
Campus Traffic
UMass closes and redirects roads during move-in and move-out. Do NOT use GPS near campus on these days — it doesn't know about the temporary one-way streets and closures. We know the real-time traffic patterns because we've navigated them for years.
Vehicle Limits
Only ONE vehicle is allowed in the unload zone during move-in. During move-out, vehicles get 20 minutes to load before they must be moved. A professional mover who works efficiently within these windows makes all the difference.
Southwest Towers
The Southwest residential area houses thousands of students in high-rise towers. Move-in is organized by floor and time slot. Professional movers handle specific floors at designated hours. These towers require elevator coordination and efficient stacking.
Off-Campus Apartments
The September 1 lease cycle means thousands of students move into off-campus apartments the same week as dorm move-in. Puffton Village, Brandywine, The Boulders, and North Pleasant Street turn into a moving marathon. We know every complex.
Parking Enforcement
Amherst parking enforcement is strict year-round. Downtown requires residential permits. Winter parking ban runs December 1 through March 31. We handle all parking logistics so you don't start your semester with a ticket or a tow.
International Students
UMass has thousands of international students who arrive needing furniture, apartment setup, and someone who understands the process. We provide furniture delivery, assembly, and complete apartment setup — in English and Spanish.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much do student movers cost near UMass Amherst?
Our full-service rate is $200 per hour for a 2-person crew with a 3-hour minimum. Labor-only jobs (you rent the truck, we load or unload) start lower depending on scope. A typical 1-bedroom off-campus apartment move within Amherst runs $500 to $700. Student-to-storage runs and small moves are often shorter. Call or text (413) 345-2019 for a free estimate.
When should I book movers for UMass move-in or move-out?
Book 4 to 6 weeks before your move date. The last week of August and the first week of September are the busiest moving weeks of the year in Amherst. May move-out is equally packed — over 11,000 students move out in two days. We fill up every year during these windows. Early booking guarantees your date.
Can you help on UMass dorm move-in day?
Yes. We work within the UMass move-in reservation system and vehicle limits. We know that only one vehicle is allowed in the unload zone, that GPS does not work near campus during move-in, and that Southwest towers are moved in by floor and time slot. We navigate the temporary traffic patterns and get you settled efficiently within your assigned window.
Do you help international students set up apartments?
Yes. International students often arrive with limited belongings and need help fast. We provide furniture delivery from stores or online orders, furniture assembly including beds, desks, and bookshelves, and complete apartment setup so you're ready for orientation. We speak English and Spanish and we're patient with the process.
Can you move me from one apartment to another in Amherst?
Yes. Apartment-to-apartment moves within Amherst are one of our most common jobs. Whether you're switching from Puffton to Brandywine, moving from a dorm to your first off-campus place on North Pleasant, or upgrading to a bigger unit for junior year — we've done this move hundreds of times.
Do you offer student rates or labor-only pricing?
Yes. Labor-only service is the most affordable option for students. You rent a truck from U-Haul, Budget, or Penske, and we handle the loading and unloading. You save on the full-service rate and still get professional movers handling your furniture and boxes. Every job gets the same professional service regardless of size.
Can you move me home after graduation?
Yes. Whether home is across Massachusetts, in Connecticut, or out of state, we handle graduation moves. We hold federal interstate authority under USDOT 3487445 and MC-1146649 for cross-state moves. We can pack your entire apartment, load the truck, and deliver wherever your next chapter takes you.
Do you provide junk removal at the end of a lease?
Yes. End-of-lease cleanouts are one of our most popular Amherst services during May move-out. Students leave behind furniture, mattresses, and junk they can't take home. We remove everything, donate usable items to the Amherst Survival Center, and leave the apartment clean for the next tenant. Landlords also hire us for tenant turnover cleanouts.
Do you know the Amherst apartment complexes?
Yes. We've moved students into and out of Puffton Village, Brandywine, The Boulders, Crestview, Echo Hill, Alpine Commons, Aspen Chase, Presidential, Rolling Green, Mill Valley, Cliffside, Sugarloaf Estates, and dozens of private rentals along North Pleasant, East Pleasant, Fearing, and Phillips Street. We know the parking, the stairwells, the tight turns, and the best time to show up at each one.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Haul of Fame Movers LLC is USDOT-registered with DOT number 3487445 and Motor Carrier number MC-1146649. We hold Massachusetts DPU certificate 31976 and carry active general liability insurance. We are fully licensed for residential moves in Massachusetts and interstate moves to Connecticut and beyond.
