About Moving at Smith College
Smith College does not have traditional dormitories. Students live in one of 40 unique, self-governing houses spread across five campus neighborhoods: Garden, Ivy, Mountain, Paradise, and the Quad. Houses range in size from approximately 10 to 100 students and vary dramatically in architectural style, stairwell width, room layout, and access. A move into Comstock House is a completely different job than a move into Sessions Complex or the Friedman Apartments. We have experience moving students into houses across all five neighborhoods.
Smith requires all undergraduates to live on campus for four years. This means students move between houses between academic years, need storage during breaks, and accumulate belongings over four years that all need to be moved at graduation. First-year students cannot bring cars to campus. Parking in downtown Northampton is limited. We handle all parking logistics on move day.
Fall 2026 move-in at Smith is August 23. International Student Pre-Orientation begins before that date. Northampton gets congested on move-in day with limited parking and narrow streets. We know the back routes and staging locations at every house.
Smith College House Neighborhoods We Serve
We serve all 40 houses across every neighborhood. Garden Neighborhood includes Comstock House, Gardiner House, Haven-Wesley House, Haynes House, Morrow House, Sessions Complex, and Wilson House. Ivy Neighborhood includes Lee House, Albright House, Baldwin House, Chapin House, Duckett House, Hubbard House, Lawrence House, Morris House, Tyler House, and Washburn House. We also serve the Mountain Neighborhood, Paradise Neighborhood, Quad Neighborhood, Friedman Apartments, Conway House for Ada Comstock family housing, and graduate student housing in the River Neighborhood.
International Student Services
Smith College international students arrive from around the world, often with minimal belongings. College rooms provide a bed, desk, chest of drawers, chair, and closet but no sheets, curtains, or lamps. We provide furniture delivery from local stores and online orders, room setup, furniture assembly, shopping runs for essentials, and complete move-in coordination. We speak English and Spanish and understand that arriving in a new country is overwhelming enough without worrying about logistics.
Off-Campus Apartments in Northampton
Limited senior students are permitted to live off-campus through the housing lottery. For those students we serve all Northampton neighborhoods including Downtown Northampton, Elm Street, Green Street, Prospect Street, Barrett Street, Crescent Street, State Street, Main Street, Florence, Leeds, Hatfield, Easthampton, and Hadley.
